Three Reasons To Stay At A Local Boutique Hotel

Transparency? Check. Dinner recs? Check. Top-tier cleanliness? Check.

You’ve shopped around the big hotel chains and, maybe, they’ve come up short. (Or, maybe, you’re tired of a generic room with a leaky faucet and questionable bedding.) You’ve struggled to find an Airbnb that fits your needs in a desirable area without some ridiculously high cleaning fee. Does this sound like your experience? We’ve rounded up three reasons why staying local will make all the difference on your next trip to Oregon.

Staying at a local, boutique hotel has some major perks when it comes to planning your next adventure. But first: What is a boutique hotel? This title, which has grown in popularity over the last decade, often refers to a small, stylish hotel. At TheOrenco, we only have ten guest rooms across three European-style Brownstones. Though that number sounds low, it means that we can be all the more intentional in the guest experience we provide.

Our local business is family owned and operated—not outsourced out of town or managed by some faceless corporation. Everything we do is a reflection of us, which is why we cherish guest reviews and value every opportunity to connect with our travelers face to face. At TheOrenco, we welcome all and go the extra mile to make you, our guests, feel at home.

There are some other perks to staying at a local boutique hotel that our guests frequently mention when they stay with us. Here are some common themes that pop up in our five star hotel reviews:

1. No hidden fees

We all know the feeling of getting a bill with a host of “convenience fees” that don’t quite make sense. At TheOrenco, we believe that transparency is the best policy. Our only additional fees (minus add-on room charges you may opt-in for, like our Romance Package or Late Check-Out) are 14.5% applicable taxes, which include: 1.5% State of Oregon Transient Lodging Tax, 9.0% Washington County Transient Lodging Tax, 3.0% City of Hillsboro Transient Lodging Tax, and 1.0% Orenco Station Live/Work HOA Fee. Those are taxes we’re legally obligated to charge, but we aren’t adding on anything else. At TheOrenco, you know exactly what price you’ll pay.

2. Local, personalized recommendations

When you book a room at TheOrenco, we make it our goal to help your stay exceed your expectations. For some, that’s assistance with a tee time at one of our local golf courses. For others, it’s borrowing pickleball gear or a couple of bicycles to get in some scenic exercise. Or, maybe you just want to know where to find the best croissants in Hillsboro (Hint: right down the street from us). As a family team who lives right in the neighborhood, we’re always happy to share personalized recommendations so you don’t have to Google your way to the best restaurants in town. We even have our own list on Yelp.

    3. Attention to detail

Now this you won’t find anywhere else. With just ten guest rooms at TheOrenco, we can focus on the little things that others miss. For one, you can check in completely on your phone with our keyless entry system—or you can arrange to meet us at the front desk for a warm welcome. Upon arriving in your room, you’ll find a personalized note welcoming you to the best hotel in Hillsboro (but hey, we’re biased). You’ll also find a complimentary bottle of wine (for guests 21+) and a breakfast voucher to enjoy warm, fresh pastries just steps from our front door at Tous Les Jours in Orenco Station. Above all, guests remark on our attention to detail when it comes to the cleanliness of our rooms, often using terms like “spotless” to rave about our housekeepers’ keen eye.

So next time you’re choosing a place to stay in the Portland Metro Area, Beaverton, or Hillsboro, we’d love for you to experience TheOrenco difference—a relaxed and luxurious local boutique hotel with unparalleled charm.

    Service Animal Agreement

This policy has been developed in partnership with the Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association and in compliance with the Department of Justice Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations to ensure that all of our guests have an enjoyable stay.

Service animals are welcome at TheOrenco! In compliance with the Department of Justice ADA regulations, a service animal is defined as “a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability.” The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability.

Emotional Support Animal (ESA) “companion” and “comfort” dogs are not service animals protected by the ADA and are subject to our standard hotel pet policy (allowed only in Courtyard King rooms, $20/night charge). If you have a pet that is not a service animal, we respectfully request that you honor the good work of service animals by not claiming that your pet is a service animal.

    Our Policy

    • Service animals must be housebroken.
    • Service animals must never be left unattended in guest rooms.
    • When a service animal is outside of the guest room:
      ○ It must always be under the control of its handler, and
      ○ It must have a harness, leash, or other tether, unless either the handler is unable because of a disability to use such a device or use of it would interfere with the service animal’s safe, effective performance of work or tasks, in which case the service animal must be otherwise under the handler’s control (e.g., voice control, signals, or other effective means).
    • It is grounds for eviction if a service animal is threatening people, barking,
or otherwise out of control and/or creating a disturbance, and the dog’s
handler does not take prompt and effective action to control it.

By signing this document, I acknowledge and agree to all the policies above. I also
agree that should any of these policies be violated, I may be subject to immediate
eviction without any refund. I further agree to reimburse the property for any
damages caused by my service animal. I authorize charges to my payment card for
any such liability and/or damages, and I acknowledge that I shall in any event
remain personally liable for the same.

    Pet Policy

At TheOrenco, we’re happy to welcome furry friends! To ensure that all of our guests have an enjoyable and relaxing experience, we ask that you take the time to read through our Pet Policy and adhere to the following rules. For service animals, please review our Service Animal Policy.

Our pet fee is $20/night, and pets are only allowed in our Courtyard King hotel rooms. With your pet fee, we provide the use of a dog bed, dog bowl, dog towel (for muddy paws), and a few yummy dog treats from Trader Joe’s!

    • Please be a responsible pet owner and clean up after your pet. Let us know if you need supplies—the park is just 73 feet away!
    • Please utilize the complimentary dog bed, not our fancy linens, for your pet to lay. Allowing your pet to lay on our linens may result in additional cleaning fees to remove the pet hair.
    • Pets must be well-behaved and house-trained.
    • Do not leave your pet unattended in the hotel room! Anxious pets often bark when left alone, ruining the quiet enjoyment of our other guests.
    • Pets are not allowed in common areas of TheOrenco—only your room and private courtyard.

By signing this document, I acknowledge and agree to all the policies above. I also agree that should any of these policies be violated, I may be subject to immediate eviction without any refund. I further agree to reimburse the property for any damages caused by my pet. I authorize charges to my payment card for any such liability and/or damages, and I acknowledge that I shall in any event remain personally liable for the same.
